MMX launches to study Mars' moons

JAXA's MMX spacecraft separated after liftoff and is on its Mars cruise, chasing the first Phobos sample return in 2031.

The flight is underway, with spacecraft separation just over an hour after liftoff putting it on its Mars cruise in today's launch report (https://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2026/10/mmx-launch/). It's now chasing the first-ever Phobos sample return, at least 10 grams back on Earth in 2031.
