T Pyxis carved a 650-light-year hole in space

Digging through 1980s IRAS maps, astronomers found a 650-light-year void carved by the recurrent nova T Pyxis.

Astronomers found the peanut-shaped void by digging through 1980s IRAS infrared maps, where glowing warm dust makes an empty cavity stand out (Bad Astronomy: https://badastronomy.beehiiv.com/p/a-star-can-t-stop-exploding-over-and-over-and-carving-a-gigantic-hole-in-space). The culprit is the recurrent nova T Pyxis, whose eruptions kept going off long enough to dig the double bubble.
